Ghostlight Ensemble presents the next installment of its live movie readings with <a href="https://www.ghostlightensemble.com/buffy-the-vampire-slayer" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Hunting for Vampires on a School Night: A live reading of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie)</a> on Thursday, September 25, 2024. 

Join us at 7 p.m. at Black Eagle Club (1938 W Irving Park Rd, Chicago, IL 60613), as we spike the punch at the senior dance and then join together to burn down that high school gym full of vampires.

<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103893/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Buffy the Vampire Slayer</a> is a 1992 American comedy vampire film (that predates the TV series). Blonde, bouncy Buffy (played in this incarnation by Kristy Swanson) is your typical high school cheerleader — her goal is to "marry Christian Slater and die" and nothing gets in her way when it's time to shop. But all that changes when a strange man informs her she's been chosen by fate to kill vampires. Buffy is soon spending school nights protecting L.A. from Lothos, the Vampire King and his determined gang of bloodsuckers. 
The reading is directed by John Gleason Teske.
There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door, which will help Ghostlight fund its upcoming season.

Hunting for Vampires on a School Night: A live reading of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie)

As the Civil Rights movement is brewing in Montgomery, Alabama, a segregationist senator and the state librarian clash over the content of a children’s book about bunny rabbits. Meanwhile, a reunion of childhood friends — a Black man and a woman of white privilege — provides a private counterpoint to the public events swirling in the state capital. Political foes, childhood friends and one feisty children’s author inhabit a Deep South of the imagination that brims with humor, heartbreak and hope. 
Inspired by true events, Alabama Story by Kenneth Jones is a drama about censorship, book banning and Civil Rights set within the framework of 1950s racial tensions, but look closer and you’ll see it’s really about the issues facing America today as book bans and book challenges overwhelm libraries and schools across the nation.
Ghostlight will present this immersive piece of theatre set amongst books that refuse to be banned at two local booksellers in Chicago that are ardent supporters of free speech. 
Alabama Story marks Ghostlight’s return to full productions after the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, our eighth season celebrates a symphony of creativity that resonates across cultures and time, reminding us that art is a universal language that binds us all.

CHICAGO – The Conspirators present a retooling of Commedia Divina: It’s Worse Than That, written by Sid Feldman and directed by Wm. Bullion, at the Otherworld Theatre, 3914 N. Clark St., October 18 - November 10. 
 
Commedia Divina: It’s Worse Than That is back after a COVID-cut-short run in 2023. Buzz Center Stage calls the original 2023 production “Outrageously funny—The Conspirators latest show is an absolute laugh fest, and may just be their funniest so far!” This highly recommended comedy tells the story of a suburban business heiress from northern Georgia (*ahem*) who is escorted through Dante’s (heavily updated) Nine Circles of Hell by holy man, Fr. Virgil. Will she learn the right lessons and mend her ways? Or, more likely, will Washington never be the same? In either case, Hell awaits! The Conspirators employ their firebrand neo-Commedia performance style to bring the audience laughs, tears and gut-punches with the Third Coast Review saying ”The Conspirators create bizarre and brilliant magic—a rollicking good time!” The show is deemed RECOMMENDED by all who reviewed it—the Chicago Reader, Buzz Center Stage and Third Coast Review.
 
The cast currently includes Christine Watt (she/her) as Malady Traitor Greene and Travis Barnhardt (he/him) in his hilarious turn as Sen. Mitch McConnell.
The complete cast of the retooling of Commedia Divina: It’s Worse Than That will be announced soon. 
 
The production crew includes: Wm. Bullion (he/him, director); Sid Feldman (he/him, playwright, producer and style coach) and Matthew Bonaccorso (he/him, stage manager), Mike McShane (he/him, scenographer and lighting designer) Kit Medic (they/them, costumes), Sebby Woldt (they/them, sound designer), Elena Avila (she/her, assistant director), Libby Beyreis (she/her, violence designer), Meghan Lynham (she/her, choreographer), and others yet to be hired.
 
The production includes one preview performance on Thursday Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. with the press opening Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The regular performance schedule is Thursdays - Sundays at 7 p.m. Please note: the October 31 and November 1, 2, 8 and 9 performances will be special late night performances held at 10 p.m. In addition there will be an Industry Night Election Special performance on Monday, November 4 at 7 p.m. The running time is 75 minutes.
