City Of Oak Forest Names New Deputy Fire Chief

Longtime firefighter and Oak Lawn batallion chief Paul Chocola joins the Oak Forest Fire Department.

OAK FOREST, IL — The City of Oak Forest has named Paul Chocola as its deputy fire chief, effective July 22.

"We are excited to welcome Paul to the Oak Forest Fire Department," said Fire Chief Gary Kasper. "His experience, knowledge and skills will help contribute to the ongoing evolution of our department. I look forward to working together in maintaining the highest standards while serving the members of our community."

During his 31-year career with the Oak Lawn Fire Department, Chocola rose to the ranks of lieutenant and captain before becoming battalion chief. While serving as battalion chief, Chocola coordinated emergency response efforts, spearheaded training programs, developed and implemented strategic plans to optimize departmental operations, and collaborated with local agencies to foster community partnership and enhance emergency preparedness. He also managed staffing levels, maintained team resources, and developed departmental policies.

Throughout his career, Chocola has earned several certifications, including specialized technical rescue instructor, advanced fire officer, rescue task force instructor, and hazardous material incident command and technician. He also has been recognized as Firefighter of the Year by a local Veterans of Foreign Wars and Lions Club.

Chocola earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical studies and meteorology from the University of North Dakota.
