12 Beautiful Waterfalls You Didn't Know are in Illinois

Tucked away in the curving canyons of Illinois’ most popular and scenic state parks are picturesque waterfalls that will make you feel like you’re in another state or country.

Understandably, many of the 12 waterfalls we've listed are hidden gems unknown to most Illinoisans. They’re also among the state’s tallest waterfalls, but don’t expect anything as grandiose as the iconic Niagara Falls or Palouse Falls in Washington state.

You can witness the strongest water flows after heavy rains or in the spring after snowmelt, but some still flow in the summer. Just make sure to check with state park officials before you go as some might be flooded or inaccessible.
