2 Oak Lawn Men ID’d In Deadly Crash At 87th Street and Cicero Avenue

An 18-year-old and 20-year-old from Oak Lawn were identified as the deceased victims of Sunday evening's deadly crash in Hometown.

HOMETOWN, IL — Two Oak Lawn men were identified as the deceased victims of a horrific crash Sunday evening that shut down Cicero Avenue until after midnight, Hometown police said.

Diego Lopez, 18, of the 9700 block of South Kostner Avenue, and Oscar Garcia, 20, of the 9600 block of South Tripp Avenue, were pronounced Advocate Christ Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Lopez was a 2023 graduate of Oak Lawn Community High School.

Around 6:25 p.m., Hometown police responded to reports of a 2-vehicle crash near the intersection of 87th Street and Cicero Avenue. Witnesses told police that a silver sedan traveling at speeds up to 100 mph was seen weaving in and out of traffic heading south. The vehicle lost control and slammed into a pickup truck in the northbound lane of Cicero, police said.

The driver of the silver sedan and rear seat passenger were both ejected from the car, which was split into two by the impact. Hometown police started life saving measures by applying chest compressions, but the two men did not survive their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck and a third passenger in the silver sedan were also transported to Christ Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Oak Lawn and Burbank police, along with the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Team assisted with the accident investigation which lasted into the evening.
