Active Shooter Threat Cleared At Chicago Ridge Mall: UPDATED

CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — A verbal altercation at Chicago Ridge Mall late Saturday afternoon resulted in one of the people involved pulling out a gun, police said.

Chief Jim Jarolimek, of the Chicago Ridge Police Department, told Patch that no shots were fired and two of the people involved fled. Police are still sorting out surveillance video and details.

At 5:45 p.m., officers responded to multiple calls for a person displaying a gun inside Chicago Ridge Mall. A group of people were having an argument in the south end of the mall, when a man pulled out a gun and pointed it during the altercation, police said.

By the time officers arrived, the man with the gun had already fled.

Chicago Ridge police searched the mall to make sure that no weapons were disposed of in the mall. No shots were fired and no one is in custody.
