Boy Scout Troop 596 Making a Difference in the Community

Scouts collect necessities for local nonprofit.

OAK LAWN, IL — Boy Scouts from Troop 596 collected food and other items as part of the 2024 Scouting for Food initiative, which takes place every spring. Troop 596 collected over 540 items from generous family, friends and neighbors, and delivered them to Oak Lawn nonprofit, ALMOST HOME (almosthomechicago.org).

Oak Lawn residents may recognize the Scouts of Troop 596 from the Oak Lawn summer concerts and the annual National Night Out, hosted by the Oak Lawn Police and Fire Departments. The Scouts sell hot dogs and popcorn at these events to raise money for their scouting supplies and outings.

Troop 596 has been meeting at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church since the 1970s. The troop draws students from Marist and Richards high schools, and Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School.
