1 Shot At 87th Street And Harlem After Vehicle Crash: Police

Cops investigate shooting at 87th and Harlem in Bridgeview. Police say incident appears unrelated to Summer Smash concert.

BRIDGEVIEW — Detectives are investigating a shooting that took place following a vehicle collision at the intersection of 87th Street and Harlem Avenue in Bridgeview shortly after 11 p.m., on Saturday night.

Bridgeview officials are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation.

At this time, investigators believe this was an attempted robbery that occurred near the intersection prior to the collision, and the initiator of this event was the person that sustained the gunshot wounds. The person's condition is unknown,. said Chief Rick Mancha, of the Bridgeview Police Degartment.

No one was in custody as of Sunday afternoon. A person of interest was brought in for questioning but was released pending further investigation.

Bridgeview Police say they do not believe the shooting was related to the “Summer Smash” music festival taking place at SeatGeek Stadium, which previously sparked safety and traffic concerns from nearby residents.
