On Tuesday, the Knights traveled to Manteno to take on a very strong Herscher opponent. According to CCHS Athletic Director, Mark Zylstra: "Herscher scored early in the 2nd half to take a 1-0 lead. CCHS scored (Chad Busker with Kyle Powers assisting) to tie it at 1-1 with 16:00 left. Then Tyler Ackerman (with Kyle Powers assisting) scored the game winner with 2:00 minutes left! It was an absolute thriller! This is the farthest CCHS has ever made it in the State tournament (Sweet 16). Herscher is a very strong opponent who beat us earlier in the season by a score of 4-0."
When asked about the game, Coach Danny Mack stated, "It was an amazing team victory. They played together as a collective and battled back despite giving up that early second half goal. We also want to thank everyone that came out as we had a notable fan section cheering us on and want to thank manteno for being awesome hosts. Also want to tip our caps to Herscher, as they were a very good team and battled every second of that game."
The next game is scheduled for 4:30pm on Friday, October 21st at Manteno High School, where we look to bring the first ever soccer sectional title home to CCHS.
