OAK LAWN, IL — Celebrate the journey of the monarch butterfly and bring much needed awareness to the environmental and climate challenges they face today Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Oak Lawn Park District’s award-winning Monarch Festival. The free festival runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Oak View Center and Museum, 4625 W. 110th St.

Learn all about the monarchs' lifecycle, migration, and how the Oak Lawn Park District plays a pivotal role throughout the year to ensure their preservation and safety. The family-friendly Monarch Festival features butterfly-themed crafts, activities, and games. Local organizations will be on hand with information on how we can play a role in preserving and protecting these majestic butterflies as they migrate to Mexico.

The festival won an Illinois Parks and Recreation Association award for outstanding program or special event in 2016

“The Monarch Festival continues to be one of our favorite and most impactful events,” Oak Lawn Parks executive director Tom Hartwig said. “Those that attend not only have fun, learn about the importance of the monarch, its impact on our environment, and what they can do to preserve and improve the world around us.”
