Flash Flood Watch Issued for Suburbs and More Heavy Rain Tonight

A flash flood watch has been issued for the majority of the Chicago suburbs through late Monday night. The National Weather Service issued the watch Monday morning for Cook, McHenry, Lake, DuPage, Will, Kane and Kendall counties.

Periods of thunderstorms are expected during the day Monday and should continue into the evening across northern Illinois. Very heavy rainfall is expected during these storms. The heaviest rainfall is expected late this afternoon and during the early evening commute.

“Due to recent bouts of rainfall over the past week to 10 days, the ground is nearly saturated in many places and additional rain could very well lead to immediate runoff and rapid flooding,” according to the National Weather Service.

Residents should expect streams and creeks to rise quickly and some roadways may become flooded.

In addition, a flash flood warning has been issued for southern Kendall and northern Grundy counties until 2:45 p.m. Monday. Several roadways were reportedly flooded in those areas.
