Knights Soccer Captures First IHSA 1A Regional Championship since 2014

CCHS Knights defeated Universal 1 -0 in the IHSA 1A Regional Final

CCHS KNIGHTS SOCCER TEAM

On Friday, October 14, the Chicago Christian Knights played Universal School of Bridgeview on a rainy night and won 1-0. This is the teams first regional championship since 2014. The match up was tight and exciting. When there was only 9 minutes left in the game, the Knights score the only goal of the evening.

When asked about the game from Knight's coach, Danny Mack - he stated: "From my point of view it seemed like the boys were playing with some nerves. Once they really got involved and as the game went on they seemed to settle down. We really played well as a collective on both sides of the ball. We were passing well and moving well off the ball and on defense we were getting back and communicating well, holding them to limited opportunities. For individual standouts, Kyle Powers was at the center of the lockdown defense, winning any over the top ball, really taking away from that option for them. He also took that amazing free kick that we eventually scored on, getting the assist. Chad Busker was the one that put it away. For Chad, it is back to back games where he got the game-winning goal with less than 10 mins left in both games."

Athletic Director, Mark Zylstra commented after the game: "We are extremely proud of this Knights soccer team. They played two great games against strong opponents to earn this Regional Championship! This team has consistently played hard and played the right way throughout the year and are reaping the rewards of those efforts. In particular, this Senior class (Kyle Powers, Ben Van'tLand, Henry Gawron, Tyler Ackerman, Josh Sluis, JT Heerdt, Will Slager, and Cam Vahldick) has been one of strong character and commitment over a very challenging last 4 years."

Next game is Tuesday, October 18, down at Manteno High School @ 6:30pm against Herscher.
