OAK LAWN, IL — Junior Lamia Quinones played a key role in the Oak Lawn Community High School girls track team taking third place at the recent South Suburban Conference Red meet. After winning the 400-meter dash last year, Quinones returned to repeat as conference champion this year.

“Lamia has grown into a leadership role as one of two junior captains for the team,” OLCHS head coach Joe Butler said. “Her competitive fire and work ethic inspires others.”

Quinones narrowly missed returning downstate, coming in third behind two powerful teams to the sectional – Hinsdale Central and Stagg – that were not present last year. She beat everyone who ran last year, and was just behind the two new entrants. Overall, Quinones was the team’s top overall placer from OLCHS for the sectional meet.

"We anticipate that she’ll return downstate next season and will certainly challenge the school record in the 400 meter dash" Butler said.
