New Details Emerge In Plot To Kill Bridgeview Man: Prosecutor

The lovers and coworkers discussed sharing a life together and the Bridgeview man's routine in a plot to kill him, prosecutors said.

BRIDGEVIEW, IL — A Bridgeview woman is accused of conspiring with her secret lover and co-worker to kill her boyfriend, 39-year-old Arturo Cantu, who was gunned down last week in the parking lot of his apartment building while leaving for work.

Agnieszka Rydzewski, 33, appeared at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building Sunday on a felony charge of solicitation to commit murder. Her alleged co-conspirator, Anthony Calderon, 20, who prosecutors said was having an affair with her, has been charged with first-degree murder.

Rydzewski was charged Saturday evening after investigators discovered additional evidence they said linked the Bridgeview woman to the crime.

Rydzewski and Cantu lived together in an apartment in the 7300 block of West 79th Street.

According to prosecutors, Rydzewski and Calderon worked at a local McDonald's, where Rydzewski was Calderon’s manager. The pair is alleged to have started an affair.

Prosecutors described multiple text messages between the two, discussing Cantu’s location and how Rydzewski planned to change her name, WGN reported.

The pair allegedly discussed sharing a life together and possibly hiring a third person.

In one of the text messages, prosecutors said Rydzewski stated: "Tell [the third person] to do the job he got paid to do.”

Bridgeview police told Patch that the matter is closed and there are no additional suspects.

Around 5 a.m. Wednesday, Calderon was captured on surveillance video parking his red car at a nearby business and then walking toward Cantu’s apartment building in the 7300 block of West 79th Street, when he disappeared from the security camera’s view, prosecutors said.

The sound of gunshots could be heard on the surveillance video, Prosecutors said Calderon was captured on surveillance video running back to his vehicle and fleeing. The car was later found at McDonald’s and registered to Calderone.

The vehicle seen in surveillance video was registered to Calderone, according to the court documents.

Bridgeview police arrested Calderon on Friday when he was coming out of his home in the 7700 block of West 65th Street in Bedford Park. Calderon is alleged to have made a complete admission to Bridgeview police, including leading investigators to the clothing he was wearing and the weapon.

Rydzewski was denied pretrial release and joins Calderon at Cook County Jail while their case is pending.

Family members described Cantu as hardworking and a great father, always willing to help someone out.

“I am heartbroken, I am destroyed inside,” Cantu’s mother, Diana Pacheco, said during a press conference on Sunday. “My philosophy is that if you are not getting along as a couple, leave. Don’t kill him. My son didn’t deserve it.”
