OAK LAWN, IL — In the next couple of days the village will soon be crawling with Shriners darting around on their magic carpets in the Oak Lawn Indepence Day Parade this Saturday, June 29, presented by the Oak Lawn Arts and Events Commission.

The parade steps off at 4 p.m. from 95th Street and 49th Avenue and proceeds west to 95th Street and 55th Court. All 75 spots in the parade have been filled, featuring scout troops, school marching bands, veterans, local businesses, elected officials and candidates, civic groups, youth sports teams, dance troupes, clubs and places of worship.

Immediately following the parade, head over to the village green, 95th Street and Raymond Avenue, for the post-parade concert at 6 p.m. featuring Five Guys Named Moe. We love seeing old guys rock!

The usual band of mascots will also be marching in the parade including Southpaw and Tommy Hawk, as well as the Jesse White Tumblers, Medinah Shriners Genies, Chicago Stockyard Kilty Band and South Side Ghostbusters.

95th Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic Saturday, June 29 starting at 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., from Cicero Avenue to Central Avenue. The village parking lot and commuter lots including Metra Patriot Parking Tower, 95th Street and Tulley Avenue, will remain fully accessible for parade and concert parking.

Don’t worry, the Oak Lawn Park District will be blowing off fireworks on the Fourth of July, which this year falls on a Thursday. The ‘works will be blasted at dusk at Richards High School, 106th Street and Central Avenue.
