OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Community High School alumni will hit the boards in the groundbreaking musical “Rent,” in collaboration with Rose Theatrics, July 26 to July 28, and Aug. 2-4, in the OLCHS performing arts center.

The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, written by Jonathan Larson, continues to resonate with audiences worldwide, touching hearts and sparking conversations about love, friendship, and the pursuit of dreams.

Set in the gritty East Village of New York City, “Rent” follows a group of struggling artists and activists as they navigate the challenges of life, love, and survival in the face of HIV/AIDS. With its raw emotion, infectious energy, and timeless themes, “Rent” remains as relevant today as it was when it first premiered over two decades ago.

The vibrant talent and creativity fostered at Oak Lawn Community High School will be on full display as alumni Joshua Cash ‘17, Jon Cortez ‘15, Emma Mathews ‘22, and Julie Jager ‘10 take the stage in “Rent” while Vasili Patrianakos ‘23 lights the stage.

From leading roles to behind-the-scenes, these former students have embraced their passions, making significant impacts in various fields since their time at OLCHS. For Josh, Jon, and Julie, this is their first time performing on the Michael Riordan Performing Arts Center stage at OLCHS. Their participation in this production not only highlights their continued dedication to the arts but also serves as an inspiration to current students and the entire community.

“Rent” has touched the lives of millions around the world, inspiring generations with its message of hope, acceptance, and resilience.. From the iconic anthem "Seasons of Love'' to the electric “What You Own,” audiences will be swept away by the unforgettable score and heartfelt performances.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. July 26, July 27, Aug. 2 and Aug. 3, and 3 p.m. July 28 and Aug. 4 at Oak Lawn Community High School, 9400 Southwest Highway, Oak Lawn.Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students. Buy tickets online at Rose Theatrics. Tickets will be available at the door, card only.
