OAK LAWN, IL — Get ready to spookify your homes and unleash your inner Halloween enthusiast. The Village of Oak Lawn is thrilled to announce the first-ever Halloween Decorating Contest, a family friendly event that promises to bring out the Halloween spirit in our community.

The contest is open to all residents of Oak Lawn who have a knack for creative and/or creepy decorations. We want to see residents’ most spooktacular displays.

This event is sponsored by Midnight Terror Haunted House, 5520 West 111th St., Oak Lawn.

Contest Details:

  1. Registration: To enter the contest, simply visit the village website and complete the registration form. The registration deadline is noon, Oct. 27.
  2. Judging: The panel of Halloween aficionados will be roaming the neighborhoods the weekend of Oct. 27- Oct. 29 to assess the decorations. They will be scoring based on creativity, scariness, and overall Halloween spirit.
  3. Prizes and Announcement: There are some wickedly exciting prizes for the top three contestants. The winners will be announced at the Nov. 14 village board meeting. Winners' names will also be published on the village website and social media.
  4. Safety Guidelines: While creativity is encouraged, safety is also a priority. Please ensure that your decorations do not obstruct sidewalks, driveways, or traffic in any way. Keep electrical cords and decorations secure to prevent accidents.
