Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 Hosts Career Fair for Students

Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 middle school students had the opportunity to learn about over 55 professions at a career fair.

On Friday, May 17th, Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School (OLHMS) hosted its second Career Fair! OLHMS counselors Vanessa Follmar and Colleen Hoeksema created the Career Fair for all OLHMS students.

There were over 55 different professions representing careers, such as an Architect, Judge/Trial Lawyer, K9 Handler, Plumber, Civil Engineer, FDA Compliance Officer, Police Officer, Pharmacist, Fireman, Hair Stylist Educators, Therapist, IT Specialist, Lawyer, Realtor, Truck Driver, and many more.

During the Career Fair, the main gym was set up for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to explore the various careers during their encore classes. To help prepare students for the Career Fair, they were given a handout containing a floor map of where specific professions were located, a list of professions, example questions to ask professionals, and a reflection paper.

When Madison was asked about the Career Fair, she said “The Career Fair was such an amazing day! It was so cool to see so many different professions and to learn from so many different professionals.”
