Oak Lawn Man Shot During Alleged Robbery Attempt Dies Of Wounds

A business owner shot the man during an attempted robbery, then drove off wounded hitting two cars and a semi-truck, Bridgeview cops say.

OAK LAWN, IL — An Oak Lawn man died Friday of multiple gunshot wounds from a shooting days before in Bridgeview. Demetrius Landfair, 38, was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Landfair was shot June 15 near West 87th Street and Harlem Avenue during what police said was an attempted robbery. At the time of the shooting, Bridgeview police said the person shot was the instigator.

Police now believe that Landfair was parked in the lot in the 7200 block of West 87th Street shortly after 11 p.m. A business owner was walking to his car when Landfair got out of his vehicle and confronted him in what police believe to be an attempted robbery. The business owner shot Landfair in the parking lot, the Bridgeview police chief said.

“[Landfair] got back into his own vehicle and fled,” Chief Rick Mancha told Patch. “He was bleeding out and ran into two cars and a semi-truck.”

Mancha said the business owner had a valid CCL. The investigation remains active.
