Oak Lawn Theater Program Hosts Summer Theater Camp For Grades 6-12

OAK LAWN, IL — The sun will come out tomorrow when the Oak Lawn Theater Program tackles “Annie Jr.” at its first summer theater camp for students in grades 6-12. Students of all levels of experience are encouraged to participate.

OLTP summer camp runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 10 to June 29 at Oak Lawn Community High School, 9400 Southwest Highway. Students don’t have to live in Dist. 229 to participate. All are welcome.

The cost is $75, including rehearsal materials, snacks, T-shirt and two show tickets. Register at OLTP Summer Camp.

“Annie Jr.” is an hour-long version of the Tony Award-winning musical adapted for middle school performers. The show tells the story of the 1930s plucky orphan who is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a corrupt orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Eventually Annie hooks up with billionaire Daddy Warbucks.

Not an “actor?” OLTP is also looking for students to be involved with the tech crew. Students can try their hand at lights, sound, stage crew, set building and painting. No experience necessary, young thespians will learn everything you need to know.

The camp encourages students to try a theater experience. Registration ends Monday June 10, at 10 a.m.

The production begins Monday, June 10 and concludes Saturday, June 29, including:

• Tentative rehearsal dates are June 10-13, June 17-20;
• Tech and performances June 24 to June 28
• Set strike on June 29 beginning at 10 a.m.
• All rehearsals start at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.
• Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 28, students will report at 5 p.m. for students to get ready and prepare for a 5 p.m. call Thursday and Friday, June 27 and June 28, to get ready and prepare for a 7 p.m. performance.
• Set strike starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29 when everything is put away and cleaned up.

Performances for “Annie Jr.” are at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 27, and Friday, June 28, in the Michael Riordan Performing Arts Center at Oak Lawn Community High School, 9400 Southwest Highway. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online at VANCO Events.
