OL Drivers Really Distracted During Distracted Driving Awareness Month

OAK LAWN, IL — Drivers were issued 172 citations in Oak Lawn during “Distracted Driving Awareness Month” in April.

Many of the citations issued to motorists on village streets and roadways were for hands-free law violations. In addition, 95 tickets were issued for failure to fasten seatbelts, failure to secure a child in an approved child safety seat and speeding.

Oak Lawn police also cited four drivers for suspended or no valid driver’s license during the April Distracted Driving Awareness Month enforcement campaign.

“Driver distraction is a persistent issue in Oak Lawn that often has life-altering consequences,”
said Sgt. Kumke, of the Oak Lawn Police Department. “Issuing a citation is a proven way to get motorists to pay attention or pay the price. Distracted Driving Awareness Month may be over, but we will continue our efforts to stop motorists from engaging in this deadly behavior.”

Oak Lawn joined forces with the Illinois State Police, local law enforcement and highway safety
partners for this enforcement effort.
