Portillo's To Launch Own Delivery System, Plans To Hire Drivers

OAK BROOK, IL – Portillo’s, known for its menu of Chicago culinary favorites like Italian beef and Chicago-style hotdogs, has announced it is launching a delivery service and will be actively hiring drivers, the fast-casual restaurant chain announced Monday.

In a news release, Portillo’s officials announced that it would soon use delivery drivers to deliver select orders made through the restaurant’s website, portillos.com., and would bring “the true Portillo’s experience” to local residents’ doorsteps.

Portillo's locations include a restaurant in at 4020 W. 95th Street in Oak Lawn.

The restaurant announced it would be hiring several drivers for each of its 62 locations, which will account for hundreds of new jobs throughout the chain, the release said. In addition to earning a base salary, drivers will be able to collect tips on trips and will also be cross-trained to work in the restaurants where they are hired.

Drivers must be at least 18 years old, have their own vehicle and must be able to demonstrate proof of insurance.

Officials from the restaurant said that delivery has been one of the fastest-growing arms of the Portillo’s business model and is currently partnered with third-party delivery companies such as DoorDash and Uber Eats. While the company indicated it will continue to use these platforms, it will include service using its own drivers as well.
