OAK LAWN, IL — Even though Justin Canvin is only a sophomore, that doesn’t mean he can’t lead the varsity baseball team. Canvin did the job offensively, on the mound, and behind the plate as a catcher. For this, he was recognized as Oak Lawn Community High School’s Athlete of the Month for April.

Canvin led the team with a .421 batting average, he led the team with nine doubles, and he led the team with 17 RBIs. He also pitched for the Spartans, logging 20 innings and striking out 25, which led to a 2-1 record during the month.

“Justin has been a leader on the field for the entire season,” head coach Bill Gerny said. “He is our defensive leader behind the plate and has helped our pitching staff immensely.”
