Team USA stars to host benefit for COSI

Richards graduate hosts One Skate at a Time for Children's Oncology Services

Richards High School graduate Jordan Moeller returns to host a fund raiser for Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. (COSI) on Saturday, April 28.

Southwest Ice Arena, which has donated its facility for the event, will host the fund raiser from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children age 5 and younger.

SIA is located at 5505 W. 127th Street in Crestwood. The U.S. Figure Skating Association and the Northern Ice Skating Club have sanctioned this event.

Moeller, who won the U.S. Figure Skating Intermediate Men's national championship as a Richards student, will bring a host of friends to the event including:

  • Courtney Hicks, 2011 U.S. Junior Ladies champion and 2014 Olympic alternate;
  • Ryan Bedard and Isabelle Martins, 2016 U.S Juvenile Pairs Champions, 2017 U.S Intermediate Pairs Bronze Medalists, and 2018 U.S National Competitors.

Titled ‘One Skate at a Time,’ the event will directly support One Step at a Time, the camp for children in treatment for cancer sponsored by COSI.

The fund raiser will help make the camps more affordable for families.

One Step at a Time allows young cancer patients to spend time with one another. Camp provides access not only to fun, but to a place where patients can relax with others who know the road they’ve traveled.

Other performers at One Skate at a Time include Shepard High School graduate Diana Garcia, Hyaat Aldawhi and Derrick Griffin; Maggie Genevich; Osadolo Irowa; Makala Arn; Chelsea Ridley; Sonja Hilmer & Quinn Chambers; Ben Jalovick; Creative Ice Theatre; Chicago Radiance, a synchronized skating team; Sonja “Sanjay” Hilmer; Nicole Steffensen; and, Thomas Schwappach.
