Weather

There is a difference between the words climate and weather.

Reading many of the responses here, it is obvious that some people conflate and confuse the two words.

The word weather refers to localized conditions. If it is raining in Oak Lawn, that does not mean that stories about drought cannot be true. And if it is snowing in Oak Lawn, that says nothing about human caused and human aggravated climate change.

The term "climate change" refers to the planet itself. It also refers to the planet wide warming trend, accompanied by increased atmospheric moisture, and those two factors mean that the planet will see more, and more extreme, weather events.

It does not mean that it will never snow, it simply means that snow and rain events will tend to be stronger.

There are those who deny the existence of climate change, or deny that humans have anything to do with it. Some of the deniers are in the employ of the energy industries. Others I feel simply wish to deny that the problem exists so that they can tell themselves that there is no reason to change. Short sighted? Yes. Human nature? Yes.
