OAK LAWN, IL — A Grundy County woman was picked up Feb. 9 in Oak Lawn on drug charges, reports said. Jessica Baburek, 35, of Morris, was charged with two counts for possession of crack cocaine. She also had an outstanding full extradition warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

During the early morning hours of Feb. 9, an Oak Lawn police officer was patrolling Columbus Avenue when he saw a woman, later identified as Baburek, walk into a motel with another male. The woman exited the motel room and entered a tan GMC truck with another man, which pulled out of the lot toward Cicero Avenue.

The officer could not see the illuminating light on the rear license plate. The GMC was pulled over near 99th Street and Cicero Avenue. During a casual conversation with the driver, the officer asked Baburek if she had an ID. She provided her name and address, reports said.

Baburek got out of the vehicle and told the officer that her friend picked her up at the motel because she was having problems with her boyfriend, whom she only knew by the name Quail. She told the officer that her friend in the GMC was taking her back to his house, police said.

The officer ran the driver and Baburek’s names in the LEADS database. Police said the driver’s name was cleared, but Baburek had a full extradition warrant from the Cook County sheriff.

While she was sitting in the back seat of the patrol car, the officer said he saw Baburek shaking the font of her shirt. A while powdery substance that had not been there before was on the front of her shirt and pants, police said.

Baburek was asked to step out of the patrol car, when a cell phone case with .2 gram of coke fell out of her shirt on the ground, reports said. The officer retrieved her purse from the GMC, where police said he found another .3 gram crack rock.

While at the Oak Lawn police station, police said Baburek explained that the crack cocaine in her cell phone case was leftover from the night before. She also said that the rock in her purse was probably crack cocaine and belonged to her boyfriend, according to reports.

The warrant was executed, with instructions to extradite Baburek to the Bridgeview Courthouse.
