Woman Sleeping On Couch Jolted Awake By Car Crashing Through House

A 49-year-old man is charged with DUI and traffic violations after Oak Lawn police said his SUV left the roadway and crashed into a home.

OAK LAWN, IL — An Oak Lawn woman asleep on her couch early Saturday morning got a rude awakening when an SUV crashed through her living room and pushed the couch into the next room.

The driver of that vehicle, Roberto Rios, 49, of Oak Lawn is facing multiple driving citations,
The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where she was treated and released.

Rios was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into the home in the 5000 block of 99th Street, police said. He was also taken to Advocate Christ with minor injuries. At the hospital, it was determined that Rios’ blood-alcohol level was twice the .08 legal limit, according to police.

Rios has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, blood alcohol over .08, reckless driving, disobeying a stop sign and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Rios was cited and released from the hospital. Rios is due in court on Feb. 28 at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
