Worth Township Youth Commission Hosts Red Cross Babysitting Class

Program aimed at properly training children who may be babysitting after school or in charge of their younger siblings.

The Worth Township Youth Commission will be hosting an “American Red Cross Babysitting Class” for children ages 11 and up beginning on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Worth Township Hall located at 11601 South Pulaski Road, in Alsip.

The program is aimed at properly training children who may be babysitting after school or in charge of their younger siblings for any length of time.

During the program, participants will learn how to stay safe, what to do in an emergency, how to recognize and handle a variety of behaviors and how to start and manage their babysitting business including writing their own resume. Babysitters will be trained and certified in American Red Cross Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid.

Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays for three weeks for a total of 12 classroom hours. Participants must attend each class to be eligible for certification. The schedule of classes is as follows:

Session 39 - November 16, 2021 – December 7, 2021 (No class Nov. 25, 2021)

Session 40 – January 11, 2022 – January 27, 2022

Session 41 – February 8, 2022 – February 24, 2022

Participants who attend all classes and meet all class requirements will be American Red Cross Certified in Babysitting, Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid. Most importantly, their new knowledge and skills will make them a more confident babysitter.

Must have a minimum of 5 participants to hold class and classes are limited to 10 participants. Masks are required and temperatures will be taken upon arrival. Participants with a low-grade fever will not be able to attend class. There will be minimal student contact during first aid instruction and rubber gloves will be provided.

Please bring a personal water bottle with lid and have your child’s name on it. Pop or flavored water, gum, food or snacks will not be allowed in class.

There is a $75.00 fee for residents of Worth Township and an $85.00 fee for non-residents. Parents may pay with cash or check only.
