Oak Park Mayor Not Seeking Reelection

OAK PARK, IL — Oak Park Mayor and Village President, Anan Abu-Taleb will not seek reelection as mayor during April's municipal elections, he announced during an interview on Dec. 10 with Wednesday Journal. Abu-Taleb told the news source he is proud of the accomplishments and relationships he made over his eight years in office, and also gave credit to board members and staff. He also told Wednesday Journal his decision to not seek a third term was made with consideration of his wife Margi's and their children's input.

"I feel honored that I was given the opportunity to serve the community," the mayor told the Wednesday Journal.

Over the last eight years with Abu-Taleb serving as mayor, the village has seen an increase in buildings, including downtown high-rises, investment in technology, and his remaking of Oak Park Economic Development Corporation (OPEDC), according to the news source. He's also dealt with challenges as both a leader and a restaurant owner, including the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Not running for a third term will allow Abu-Taleb his wife more time to concentrate on "their restaurant ventures," the news source added.
