Fireworks Near Me: Oak Park's 4th Of July 2020

OAK PARK, IL — July 4 events across the country will not look the same this year thanks to the coronavirus. Many cities and towns have been forced to cancel the annual Fourth of July events, including Oak Park. According to a news release from the Village, this year's Fourth of July parade and fireworks have been cancelled to protect community members against the possible spread of the coronavirus. The Village added that according to public health officials, the event isn't feasible, given the expected crowds created by the annual events.

"The events would not be in compliance with Gov. J.B. Pritzker's plan for reopening Illinois, which relies on five data-driven phases of measurable progress against the highly contagious coronavirus," the Village said in a news release, adding that gatherings such as the parade and fireworks would not be allowed until the final phase.

Although Oak Park's fireworks and parade have been cancelled, there are other activities to enjoy outdoors over the holiday weekend, and several businesses will be open for outdoor dining.
