2,128 Fully Vaccinated Against Coronavirus In Kendall County

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — More than 2,200 people in Kendall County were fully vaccinated against the coronavirus by Sunday, more than a month after federal authorities approved the first vaccine. That represents about 1.66 percent of the county's total population.

More than 5,000 others in Kendall County have received the first dose of the vaccine, with 8,942 total doses administered in the county by Sunday, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The speed of administering vaccines is quickly picking up in Kendall County, the state's data shows. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered sat at about 706 doses Thursday, up from 179 on Monday.

More than 981,988 doses of the coronavirus vaccine were administered statewide by Sunday. Almost all of those who received the vaccine are health care workers or residents of long-term-care facilities, who were prioritized under the first phase of the vaccine rollout.

Kendall County has started the second phase of its COVID-19 vaccination rollout. Kendall County Health Department Executive Director RaeAnn VanGundy told Patch that they started administering vaccines in Phase 1B, alongside Phase 1A, last week.

About 3.2 million people will be eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine in Phase 1B, according to Gov. J.B. Pritzker, including Illinois residents 65 and older and front-line essential workers, as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and IDPH.
