2019 Kendall County Fair, Mark Your Calendar for August 1-4

You can join the fun and compete eating sweet corn and watermelon

YORKVILLE, Ill. – “We hope you will join us at the Yorkville Fairgrounds celebrating 27 years at this location,” says Mike Drendel, Kendall County Fair board President. “4-H members along with locals bring vegetables, quilts, canned goods that they have made or grown and compete at the Kendall County Fair for bragging rights, or for that large Champion ribbon.” Again this year we have a special entry price of $5 per adult person if you come early in the day. Prices are higher, $7 after 4 pm on the weekends.” Seniors & Children 12 and under are $4 daily.

For hundreds of local youth, 4-H project displays and animal shows are an important and fun part of the annual Kendall County Fair, which is scheduled for August 1-4. You can join the fun and compete in open show.

Projects will be on display in Smith 4-H Hall on the fairgrounds include: arts and crafts, woodworking, sewn items like clothes, needle crafts and quilts, baked goods, vegetables, photography, and more. We add other fun categories in which to compete including Lego creations, collections, table settings, Clay flower pots, Popsicle stick crafts, wreaths, fairy gardens, cut flowers and flower arrangements as well. These project areas are judged before the fair, but open for viewing throughout the weekend, Lisa Olah, Superintendent of the open show says. During the fair, we have two stages that host shows, including Rob Thompson, funny Magic Guy shows; Fox River Academy performances with Suzuki kids, music by Matthew Ripsch, Ro-Bot, Recycle the Day, Back Country Roads, Cadillac Groove, Blue Sky Blind, Broken Vegas and Eric Chesser bands are all coming. We even have the 4-H royalty crowning. The livestock area has competitions.

On Thursday, everyone can participate in the open show horse speed events, check in at 10, beginning at 11 a.m. There are Classes for Exhibition, Youth, Junior, 3-D Classes and Open: Ladies and Men divisions. Thousands of dollars in premiums offered. You can sign up the day of the show. The themed photo contest is squeezed in between the 4 pm poultry show and the 5:30 Swine breeding show.

FAME RC race car races are new this year, and you can join in and compete at one of the three races at 3, 4:30 and 6 pm. Then on the main stage at 8-10 pm we have Recycle The Day, Chicago's Most High-Energy Party Band Thursday, August 1.

The swine competitions continue on Friday, August 2 at 8:30 a.m., and the rabbit and dairy shows begin at 9 a.m. Rob Thompson shows and FAME RC race car races continue, Rob-ot is on the grounds and the Fox River Academy performances with Suzuki Kids and Donut decorating contest are on Friday. For evening band entertainment we have Cadillac Groove on the main stage from 5:30-7:30. It will be a a fun ride through Southern Rock, Blues, Funk, R&B, Soul and all points in between. You'll find yourself singing along as Cadillac Groove puts their unique, high energy touch on the songs you know and love. Back Country Roads will perform from 8:30-11 pm on the main stage and you not only get a great, high-energy performance, you get experienced, professional musicians who understand what it takes to make a great show to sing and dance along.

The beef show kicks off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Livestock Arena. We even have a 4-H cat show at 10 a.m. We have music by Matthew Ripsch, an antique tractor parade, and the adorable Baby Contest is set for 2 pm. At 4 pm there will be a truck and tractor pull in the grandstand area.
All the acts listed are included in the entry ticket price of just $4 or $5.

The Junior Talent Show returns to the Kendall County Fair, Sunday, and we are looking for the young talent of Kendall County. Kids 14 and under are invited to compete for the chance to represent Kendall County at the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs in Springfield in January. The type of talent is open to any stage act…from vocalists, to dancers, to musicians, to gymnasts, to magicians…. the list is almost endless.

10:30 am is the master showmanship contest, where youth compete in showing three species of animals, Beef, sheep and Swine.

You can compete:

  • at 11 am in the watermelon eating contest sponsored by Keller’s Farmstand with locations is Oswego, Plainfield and Naperville.
  • Gather your team to compete in the Mud volleyball Tournament at 11:30 am.
  • Prepare your show for the Jr. Talent contest at 11:30 am
  • At noon the kids can try to win in the pedal pull contest
  • Decorate your bicycle and show it at 2 pm in the decorated bike contest
  • Prepare to be full at 3 pm in the Keller’s Farmstand Sweet Corn chow down.

Buy a wood carving done at the fair at 12:30 pm.

Listen to the Peach’s Beach Party band from 1-3 pm a celebration of the spirit of Jimmy Buffett and his Beachcomber style. He says it best in his songs, “GROWING OLDER BUT NOT UP”,“IT’S FIVE O’CLOCK SOMEWHERE”’ and “WE ARE THE PEOPLE OUR PARENTS WARNED US ABOUT”. , coconut bras or pirate hats and join in the fun.
