3 Oswego Police Department Veterans Promoted

Three department veterans, one of 24 years and two of 17 years, received "well-deserved" promotions during Tuesday's Village Board meeting.

Commander Jason Bastin, Special Assignments Sergeant Chris Biggs and Officer​ Chad Vargas were promoted to deputy chief of support services, patrol commander and patrol sergeant, respectively.

OSWEGO, IL — Three Oswego Police Department veterans received "well-deserved" promotions during Tuesday night's Village Board meeting.

Commander Jason Bastin, a 17-year veteran of the department, was promoted to deputy chief of support services, while Officer Chad Vargas, who has also been with OPD for 17 years, was promoted to patrol sergeant. Special Assignments Sergeant Chris Biggs, a 24-year veteran of the department, was promoted to patrol commander.

Chief of Police Jeff Burgner recognized each of the three men for their many achievements and described them as "amazing leaders who truly care about the community and about their fellow employees," according to a news release.

As part of a long-standing tradition, family members pinned a new badge onto the men's uniform after Village President Troy Parlier administered the Oath of Office.

Police Commissioners Carrie Niesman and Chairman Ron Elvin as well as numerous family members, friends, colleagues and OPD retirees attended the meeting.
