Beloved Windy City Pizza Employee Remembered for Kindness, Generosity

A fundraiser will help his daughters and pay for the cost of his funeral.

OSWEGO, IL — Anthony Urso III was more than just a pizza delivery driver, but that’s how most people knew him.

According to his niece, Felicia Stompanato, he was known as “Tony The Driver from Windy City with the Red Honda.”

“Outside of his huge family, he had an awesome work family,” Stompanato told Patch. “He treated everyone at Windy City like they were his own.”

Urso passed away Oct. 7 in his bed. He was found by his daughters. The loss brings back painful memories to his three daughters, who lost their sister in 2007 to a drunk driver.

“They were just in the process of moving to a new house to start over and make new memories and now he won't be able to do that,” Stompanato said. “He was an awesome guy. He was my uncle, my godfather and just an overall amazingly kind-hearted person. No one will ever be able to replace him.”

Urso was the kind of guy who would help out anyone with anything and yes, that includes giving you the shirt off his back. That kindness extended to the customers of Windy City Pizza. Stompanto said Urso had a customer to whom he would always bring a donut. For another older customer, he would always go in and set up her food.

“Many people loved him for his generosity and loving ability,” she said. “He worked there for more than five years and got to know many people in the area on a personal level.”

To help the family, Stompanato has set up a fundraiser. The proceeds will go toward his three daughters and burial costs, as he didn’t have any insurance.

The family will receive guests from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Dieterle Memorial Home. A funeral for Urso will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 at Dieterle Memorial Home. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora.
