Detective Retires After 20 Years With Oswego Police Department

During his career, Pat Wicyk worked in the patrol divison and investigation unit and served as the former's canine handler from 2005-2009.

OSWEGO, IL — Pat Wicyk, a detective with the Oswego Police Department, officially retired Monday. He worked with the law enforcement agency for 20 years, officials announced.

When Wicyk first joined OPD in 2002, he was assigned to the patrol division where he served in numerous role over the years, including the department's canine handler — with his K-9 partner, Ben — from 2005 to 2009.

"During that time, he dedicated countless hours towards the K-9 Program and took great pride in the work he & Ben did on a daily basis," officials said in a news release Thursday.

Wicyk switched departments in 2013 to begin working as a detective in the investigations unit, where he served out the rest of his career, according to officials.

While working in the investigations unit, the detective was also a member of the Kendall County Special Response Team, a bicycle officer and resident computer and cell phone forensic expert.

Throughout his career, Wicyk also received "numerous commendations and well-deserved awards," including for lifesaving efforts, police said.

"He will be sorely missed, not only for his public service but also for his knowledge in all things Apple related, his enthusiasm for Top Gun movies, his award winning chili, and his humor," officials said. "Congratulations on your well-earned retirement Detective Wicyk! We wish you and your family all the best in your future endeavors!"
