National Night Out Events Will Kick Off August In Oswego

The nationwide event "promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer."

OSWEGO, IL — National Night Out activities are returning to Oswego to kick off August, police announced.

Locals will have the chance to interact with Oswego Police Department staff from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 1 at Prairie Point Park, 4120 Plainfield Road.

The nationwide event "promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer," according to the National Association of Town Watch, the organization that founded the annual early August event in 1984.

Since its inception, communities across the country have held National Night Out events on the first Tuesday of August. Block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other community events have been popular ways to celebrate the outreach-focused event.

In Oswego, National Night Out will feature family-friendly activities, games, an inflatable obstacle course, free hot dogs and frozen treats. Police will also have different equipment on site for visitors to experience, according to a news release.
