OSWEGO, IL — The last of the new traffic signals will be installed and functional by the end of Thursday, officials announced.

So far this summer, two new traffic signals have been constructed as a way to improve safety at Route 34 and Washington Street and Main and Harrison streets. All signals on Route 34 from Route 31 to Route 25 will be electronically interconnected to coordinate traffic flow.

The railroad warning signs on Route 34 will also communicate with the traffic signals to ensure cars can clear the tracks before a train approaches. Cars in the intersection will be detected by cameras, not traffic loops, officials said.

Other safety improvements include improved ramps, pedestrian "Walk" and "Don't walk" signs, and accessibility features, including audible indicators.

The final equipment will be installed Thursday, and officials are warning drivers of possible delays as crews work and other drivers acclimate to the new signals.
