Obituary: Harvey J. Eichelberger

He was a quiet, gentle man known all over for his willingness to help not only family but also friends in need.

Harvey J. Eichelberger, age 98, of Oswego, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at The Pearl of the Tillers in Oswego. He was born June 1, 1925, in Aurora, the son of the late Harvey L. and Margaret nee Lantz Eichelberger.

He was a quiet, gentle man known all over for his willingness to help not only family but friends in need. Harvey spent his life working on the family farm in Oswego but also as an ace excavator and master operator of heavy equipment. Additionally, he worked with the Wheeler family of Plainfield for many years. Later, he worked for Kindlon Enterprises as a building engineer.

He is survived by his brothers Elwin (Jean) Eichelberger of Eola, Illinois; Roger (Connie) Eichelberger of Cadiz, Kentucky; sister Vivian Proaps of Waterman, Illinois; and Kay (the late Charly) Peak of Traverse City, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by siblings Ila Dedo, Beryl Hagerman and Mary “Maxine” Moore.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 1801 S. Douglas Road, Oswego, IL 60543.

Harvey will be laid to rest next to his parents at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Aurora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
