Oswego Forum Explores Drug Abuse, Stigmas

Experts from the government, nonprofits and more will be on hand to discuss the growing problem.

OSWEGO, IL — School District 308 is presenting a substance use and abuse forum Jan. 25 called "Understanding the Epidemic." A flyer for the event points out there are direct and indirect consequences to communities when substance misuse and abuse takes place. The event will be community-focused and will include resources and services for substance awareness and treatment.

The forum will be presented by 10 area agencies, organizations and service departments. It is free and open to parents, staff and community members who are interested in learning more about substance abuse. Topics include recognizing drug abuse, trends, stigmas, resources and recovery for all ages.

Forum experts include law enforcement officials from the Oswego Police Department, the Oswego Fire Protection District, Kendall County State's Attorney's Office and the county probation department and health department.

Presenters will also come from the heath care sector, and will include Rosecrance Health Network, PATH, Waubonsee Community College and Rush-Copley Medical Center.

The event takes place 6:30 - 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Oswego High School Performing Arts Center at 4250 Rt. 71.
