Oswego Police Deputy Chief Retires After 27 Years Of Service

OSWEGO, IL — After 27 years of "dedicated service," Oswego Police Deputy Chief Kevin "Woody" Norwood retired Monday, officials announced.

Norwood began his law enforcement career in 1996 as a patrol officer at the Oswego Police Department. In the patrol division, he also served as a field training officer, truck enforcement officer and bike officer.

He was promoted to patrol sergeant in 2003, traffic unit sergeant in 2011 and detective sergeant in 2015. From there, he worked his way up to being appointed commander in 2016 and deputy chief of field operations in 2019.

Throughout his career, officials said he continued to prioritize service to the public, building long-standing community partnerships.

Beyond the police department, Norwood was actively involved in the Kendall County Association of Chiefs of Police, Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and International Association of Chiefs of Police.

"Thank you, Deputy Chief Norwood, for providing a long career of dedicated service to the police department, the Village, and the community of Oswego," police officials said in a news release. "Congratulations on your well-earned retirement, we will miss you! We wish you and your family all the best!"
