Oswego Runners Finish 2023 Chicago Marathon

The 45th edition of the race featured more than 47,000 runners Sunday in Chicago, the most-ever finishers in the history of the race.

OSWEGO, IL — In an edition filled with broken records, the 45th Chicago Marathon on Saturday featured more than 47,000 runners, including a number of local Oswego competitors.

Race officials said this year's participants marked the most runners to ever finish the 26.2-mile marathon.

Kelvin Kiptum, of Kenya, was the top male and overall finisher, clocking the first sub-2:01 marathon in an officially sanctioned competition with a world record time of 2 hours and 35 seconds. Sifan Hassan, of the Netherlands, set a new course record on the women's side with a time of 2:13:44.

In addition, Marcel Hug, of Switzerland, broke his own record set in last year's wheelchair race with a time of 1:22:37. Catherine Debrunner, also of Switzerland, set a new course record for women in the wheelchair division with a time of 1:38:44.

  4. Nathan Knautz, 3:38:09
  5. Ameer Flynn, 3:57:48

FEMALE

  1. Kara Blasingame, 3 hours, 53 minutes, 46 seconds
  2. Meghan Bradshaw, 4:30:22
  3. Crystal Palacios, 5:02:19
  4. Tamera Podschweit, 5:03:56
  5. Melissa Shelley, 5:06:42

The Chicago Marathon's website published a complete list of local runners who completed the race. All results were unofficial as of Tuesday afternoon.
