Riot Pizza No Longer Opening In Oswego: Minor Threat

"Neither Minor Threat Restaurant Group, nor the developer could agree on terms that would benefit both groups," restaurant owners said.

OSWEGO, IL — Riot Pizza, from the minds behind Yorkville's Crusade Burger and Plainfield's Sovereign, was originally supposed to open in Oswego sometime this year. With the plans behind schedule, restaurant owners set the record straight, announcing the pizza parlor would no longer open in the village.

In a statement published on Facebook June 1, owners cited a failure of Minor Threat Restaurant Group and the developer to "agree on terms that would benefit both groups."

Described by village officials as "a gothy, punk version of The Max from Saved by the Bell," Riot Pizza would have been occupied a space on the corner of Washington and Harrison streets, at The Reserve on Hudson Crossing. When Oswego officials introduced the pizzeria a year ago in April, they said it was expected to open in late 2021 or by spring 2022.

But owners said this isn't the end of Riot Pizza.

"Riot Pizza WILL BE, it's just a matter of time," they said, explaining they are searching for a new home "for this incredible and unique concept."

In announcing that Riot had fallen through, the restaurateurs also hinted at the start of more Minor Threat restaurants in the future.

"We also have plans to expand our Crusade restaurants and many other ideas and concepts that will be coming to fruition in the coming years," they said.

Just earlier this year, Minor Threat Restaurant Group's smoothie-focused spot, Juicehead Smoothies & Coffee, closed its doors in Plainfield. Owners said it became "less and less feasible" to share a space with Sanctuary, "a thriving event venue" and plan to focus their energy on Yorkville's Juicehead location.
