Run A Ghost Run 8K, Fraidycat 5K Or Meow Mile In Oswego

The 11th annual Healthy Driven races will be on Oct. 24, and proceeds will support a scholarship for high school seniors.

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego-area runners can get a race under their belts while supporting their community at an 8k, 5k or mile run on Sunday, Oct. 24.

The 11th annual event is hosted by Edward Elmhurst Health and the Oswego Area Chamber of Commerce, and it is made up of the "Meow Mile," "FraidyCat 5k" and "Ghost Run 8k."

Runners can register online here. Same-day registration is also available, but registrants who register the day of will be in the last group of 50 to start the race, according to the event's website.

Participants will run a path along the streets and bike paths between Plainfield and Grove Roads. The 8k and 5k courses are certified by the USTFA-IL, and all will start from Prairie Point Elementary School (3650 Grove Road, Oswego).

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and will close at 8:45 a.m., the website says.

The Meow Mile will start at 9 a.m. and lineup for the FraidyCat and Ghost Run will begin 15 minutes later.

Trophies will be presented to the top male and female finishers from the Meow Mile and FraidyCat races. The top male and female Ghost Run finishers will also receive trophies, as will the male and female Ghost Run runners whose second 4K split is closest to their first 4K split.

A virtual option is also available for runners who want to run whenever they want and still get the swag; however, virtual runners will not be eligible for race awards and do not need to turn their times in.

All runners for the 5K and 8K will receive finisher medals, and everyone who registers for the race will receive a long-sleeved shirt and drawstring gear bag.

Some of the proceeds will go toward the new Healthy Driven FraidyCat scholarships, which will be awarded to seniors graduating from Oswego High School and Oswego East High School who give back to their community by volunteering.

Scholarship applications will open on Dec. 1 and be due on April 1, officials said.
