Speed Limit Increases On Washington Street In Downtown Oswego

The Illinois Department of Transportation raised the speed limit on Washington Street between Route 31 and Madison Street.

OSWEGO, IL — The speed limit increased on a segment of Washington Street in downtown Oswego.

Drivers can now safely crank their speed up to 25 mph — from the previous 20 mph — between Route 31 and Madison Street. New signs are now installed on Washington Street, the village announced in a Tuesday morning alert.

The Illinois Department of Transportation raised the speed limit now that upgraded traffic signals are in place in downtown Oswego, officials said.

"Remember to reduce speed when the weather is rainy, snowy or icy, and always yield to pedestrians," the alert read.
