This November, I am recognizing National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month and National Family Caregivers Month.

In 2021, dementia caregivers provided an estimated 16 billion hours of unpaid care - a contribution to the nation valued at $271 billion. While these statistics are staggering, they don’t reflect the emotional, physical and financial strain that comes with providing dementia care on a daily basis.

As a volunteer advocate with the Alzheimer’s Association, I understand the challenges Illinois caregivers are facing. Our family cared for my Mom for over 16 years. No two days were ever the same and most were deeply heartbreaking. Alzheimer’s leaves no one unaffected.

Increased research funding would provide individuals living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers access to better quality care and support services which are essential when managing this disease.

I am asking my Representative Bill Foster to support $226 million in research funding. I am so grateful for his ongoing efforts to help end this dreadful disease!

During National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Family Caregivers Month, please join me and the Alzheimer's Association in encouraging Congressman Foster to support additional research funding so we can offer hope to the millions of American families impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia.
