Take Refuge From Dangerous Heat At Kendall County Cooling Centers

Some cooling centers are available 24/7 as 100-degree temps approach.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — Extremely hot weather is hitting the Chicago area, and excessive heat watches are in effect in Kendall County and neighboring communities. Friday is expected to be the hottest day of the year, with temperatures hitting 100 degrees in some places.

To keep yourself safe in extreme heat, ready.gov also advises:

  • Find air conditioning.
  • Avoid strenuous activities.
  • Watch for heat illness.
  • Wear light clothing.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

If you find yourself without air conditioning, here are some locations throughout Kendall County where you might find relief. The Kendall County Health Department reminds residents to call ahead to make sure a cooling center is open before heading there.
