Youth Robotics Team wins second place in International event

Kendall County, IL – A local robotics team The Phoenix Cubitects received the invitation to participate in the inaugural 2020 Virtual Share and Learn City Shaper Open International Invitational Competition when their FIRST Lego League season was abruptly suspended due to the pandemic. 48 teams from 20 different countries participated in this inaugural event in April 2020, which included an all virtual platform where teams performed live robot runs from their homes which were judged by experienced FIRST Lego League judges from across the world. In addition to the robot runs there were several judges’ presentations which were conducted via video. The entire event was livestreamed by FIRST Updates Now.

The Phoenix Cubitects won the Champions Finalist award for being a strong performer in the judges’ presentation categories as well as the automated robot performance.

In addition to this competition they also participated in the FIRST Global Innovation Award presented by Disney, in May 2020. The team finished strong competing against 150 teams from across the Globe making it to the Quarter Finals.
