PALATINE, IL — A Palatine teen's initiative to help area food pantries and community members in need has reached several local businesses and organizations. According to Daily Herald, 16-year-old Eva Konsur, a junior at William Fremd High School, was inspired to help her community after reading a news article this summer about a long line of cars outside a Texas food pantry. As part of her initiative, Community Unity, Eva reaches out to local businesses and organizations to set up food drives aimed at helping area food pantries.

Eva originally contacted grocery stores with an idea of asking customers for donations, but with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this wasn't possible, Daily Herald said. However, things got underway after the manager of Trader Joe's Schaumburg location thought to ask employees if they'd like to donate to Eva's initiative. The teen told the Daily Herald she reached out to hundreds of local businesses and schools in October, and more than 30 responded.

"I bring boxes and a list of items food pantries need for employees to donate and take the donations to the food pantry of their choice," Eva wrote on the nonprofit's Facebook page. Anyone interested in helping with Eva's initiative can email her at [email protected].
