PALOS, IL — This November, Patch is celebrating "30 Days of Gratitude," stories about living with gratitude — in simple terms, a deliberate choice to see the goodness and joy in your life and to wish the same for your neighbors.

My dear neighbors on Harold Avenue, Clara Van Howe and Marjie Coleman, have taught me the meaning of gratitude over and over during the past 30 years. It began when they and their husbands helped create the village that raised my husband's and my children in a firm, loving and respectful way. Clara and Marjie helped me with my dad during his last days. They were at my house every day as I was experiencing a stroke several years ago. They visited every single afternoon until they were sure I had recovered and had my memory back. Clara and Marjie are the kindest people ever. As my husband recently experienced major health problems, Clara called each day seeking a wellness check and offering advice. I do not write this to slight more recent friends who should be included, but Clara and Marjie have been there for me for 30 years. They are truly over the top!

I’m forever grateful for my best friend's Dad, Jim Williams, he let me and my daughter stay at his house during a very hard time, for his family and mine! So Again, Thank you, Gampy, for being the best human around, much Love
