Obituary: Tryphone "Ty" Avros

He was known for his generosity and kindness, becoming a friend to everyone he ever met.

Tryphone “Ty” S. Avros

Tryphone S. Avros, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Meadowbrook Manor in Bolingbrook. Ty was born in Chicago on January 26, 1934 to the late Steve and Helen Avros. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He owned and operated Ty Avros Produce, supplying produce to families and restaurants for many years.

Ty was known for his generosity and kindness, becoming a friend to everyone he ever met. He was loved and will be missed by many. When not working the produce business, or spending time with family, Ty enjoyed trying his luck at the OTB, affectionately known as his therapy.

Ty is survived by his children, son Jimmy (Cindy) Avros, son Stephen Avros and daughter Stephany Avros Bassett; his grandchildren, Jimmy, Nick (Colleen), Anthony and Gino Avros, and Sophia, Tessa, and Annie Bassett; his sisters, Demetra Morrow and Sylvia Buonaiuto; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anastasia O’Hern and Constance Zurales; and brother, George Avros.

Funeral services for Tryphone Avros will be Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway, Joliet, where he will lie-in-state from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where Ty will receive full military honors conducted by the United States Army.
