Remodeled Plainfield Walmart Complete With Expanded Grocery Section

Some changes to the Walmart on Route 59 include an expanded grocery section, a streamlined checkout area and new $1 shopping area.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield residents will soon get a first look at the newly remodeled Walmart Supercenter. With renovations complete, shoppers can celebrate the "regrand opening" with local officials beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.

Plainfield Mayor John Argoudelis will join members of the Plainfield Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce in celebrating the remodeled store, located at 12690 S. Route 59. At the event, Walmart associates will present checks to the Plainfield fire and police departments, the American Legion of Plainfield, four local high schools and the Therapeutic Horse Farm, according to a news release.

  • Online grocery pickup is being moved to a more convenient location.
  • An expanded grocery department includes more fresh veggies and fruits and a larger dairy section.
  • A new associate-operated register lane has been added to streamline checkout.
  • A new $1 shop area can be found at the front of the store.
  • A new grab-and-go area featuring deli and lunch items is also located at the front of the store.

When shopping at Walmart, people will also have various options on how they want to shop. The store offers fee-free curbside pickup, free pharmacy curbside pickup and Walmart Pay, a touch-free way to pay.

"There are a lot of new foods and snack items we know our shoppers are going to enjoy," Joyce Finley, Walmart store manager, said in a statement. "We're excited about being able to give back to the community with grants to organizations that serve local residents."
